Serving his master

"Peek-a-boo!" Is the expression I normally hear when Judah is at the end of his patience every third Sunday morning. Since he was an infant he's been graciously tagging along while Kenton and I practice with the worship team. As he's gotten older, it's been increasingly difficult to keep him calm for this early morning rehearsal. Today, the cheerios ran out, the apple was gone and the two books had lost their luster. I know he was frustrated and I was frustrated that I couldn't keep him happy. Yet in our moment of dueling irritation I was lead to believe that Judah was just experiencing the same emotions we all have at times. Serving Christ comes in many forms. Today I was impressed to see that my son is doing his part to keep running the race that Christ has set out before us. And in this race we all experience times when we want to quit. Only liars would say otherwise. So, gaining this new perspective I was able to be more patient with Judah, sympathize with him, and love him through the hill he was trying to climb this morning. I fear I may lead him into servant burnout because he's subject to our schedules, however I do get those days when the fruit of his serving is seen. He has learned the words to so many worship songs and to hear a two year old sing "hallelujah" or grow a passion for picking out instrumental parts to every song on the radio, is a time stopping blessing.

So I say to you my son, and to you my friends:

"So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time." Galatians 6:9

  1. Never forget that, Lacy. That verse has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. And Judah will never experience burnout from your Christian activity. Instead, he will be a better person because of it. When our children see us serving it's only natural that they follow in our path.

There's another verse you can cling to as well. "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it!" Don't listen to the lies of the enemy - trust God's Word!
