1st Annual Pilgrim's Progress Half Mile Challenge

NERD ALERT!!! Be warned that yes, we are THAT dorky, and YES, this is full of cheese! (I warned you, so I don't want to hear it!!) (Oh and I'm actually very shy and humble, seriously!)

Back in May my family attended a carnival. Once all the overpriced fun was over, the little ones were running around in a field. (Probably could have saved some money and gone straight for the field) As we were rounding up kids, somehow the idea of a quick foot race from one end to the other came up. Before I knew it my, non-avid runner/exercising/doing anything that "is hard", husband is toeing a line for a race. My Dad called the start and Kenton blasted right ahead of me and beat me. Later my Dad said, "you weren't even trying, were you?" Sheepishly I responded, "I actually was."
So from this event Kenton has loved that he beat me. Claiming he's a sprinter and clearly I'm not. Months go on and this comes up over and over. Finally this fall I said, "I'll give you until Thanksgiving, then we're going to race a half mile."

So this morning after I met with friends for 9 miles at 7 AM, I ran home, grabbed some chalk, and reset my Garmin. I marked a starting line and then ran down the street a quarter mile. I marked another line, turned around and ran home.
I came in, rounded up the competition, and the line judge (Judah, 6 years old).
To be honest, I didn't know what to expect, other than the smack talk that we're so good at.

THE RACE! It's pretty uneventful during the race, unless you want to watch the antics of Judah as he immediately breaks the "Stay right HERE" rule as soon as we're out of sight. The winner comes in view at about 2:45 in the video, if you wanna skip ahead.

I'm not sure why the camera man cut me off in my complete interview! :)

Oh, I know we have too much fun over here in Hansenland!
Happy Thanksgving!

Stay tuned. Christmas Day will feature the Manger Mile and we have a larger field signed up this time!

Hey, we're talking about another Blog group meet at the Groundhog Run at the end of January in KC. And guess who's making super-tentative plans to come down for the River Run next year....
